Daily 51 - Spin a yarn

Ok, since I'm returning tomorrow to a daily routine 8 hour pain-in-the-neck(read college) here's a new post that will be open for at least three days. I'm looking for very specific answers on this cyclic connect.
Study the image carefully(gosh..blog beginning to sound like a question paper now) and carve out a story from the guy encircled in A, the guy in B, the woman being portrayed in C, a detail D from a famous mural, the big guy in E.

Additional inputs/hints:

  • You can guess "A" quite easily from another biggie seated next to him
  • "B" served under A and belonged to an American industrial, banking, and political family of German American origin that made one of the world's largest private fortunes in the oil business during the late 19th and early 20th century
  • B actually commissioned C's husband to do something but eventually was pissed off
That "something" was destroyed but a detail D from it inspired E to create something else.

And finally for the icing in the cake, connect the last answer with January 17, 2010.

In the meantime I'll figure out how to distribute the points for this.

Ok. So we're back in business. Great answering by Vinay and KD(welcome back !). Read the comments for the comlpete answer. I've eventually decided to give 5 points for this one. KD gets 4 cos she missed out on the Jyoti Basu part.

  1. Very nice question. But if kamal was not there, the chain would have been difficult. :)
Nelson Rockafeller served under Gerald Ford. He commissioned Frida Kahlo's hubby Diego Rivera to paint Man At The Crossroads which controversially had Lenin's portrait and hence got destroyed. The mural's remains were preserved by a photographer as "Man,Controller of the Universe". Now this was the inspiration for Kamal Hassan's communist themed painting in Anbe Sivam. :) And now for my icing... Jyoti Basu. :) :)

    A - Gerald Ford
    B - Nelson Rockefeller
    C - Frida Kahlo
D - Man, Controller of the Universe
    E - Kamal Hasan
    F - Anbe Sivam
    Icing - Jyoti Basu
